I am currently in the worst reading slump ever, since I found my enjoyment of reading. I don’t even know for sure what has caused the slump. I don’t remember the last time I actually finished a book. I think it was A Song of Wraiths and Ruin by Roseanne A. Brown sometime this past summer. Now I just need to finish another book.
It’s not that I haven’t been reading. I have probably 10 books minimum that I’ve started, and not finished. At the moment, only 1 is on my list to pick up again soon to finish. That book, if you’re curious, is The City We Became by N.K. Jemisin. The only reason I’m hesitating, is because I’ll be starting from the beginning due to some funky technical trouble with the copy I had borrowed from my library. I’ve now skipped that whole mess, and have purchased my own copy since I was enjoying it so much.
Some of the issue is not being able to find time without many interruptions. The only time this happens is basically when my husband is sleeping since I have been working from home due to the pandemic. I also no longer drive to and from work; time I would use to listen to an audiobook. Now my time is spent hiding in a room during work hours, playing with a dog, doing various things with my husband, and a couple months ago we got serious about getting back to work on some home projects. I’ve shared a little about these in some past posts.
Over this past week, we managed to finish roughing in the walls, and now we are on to electrical. Last night I started drilling some of the holes needed to feed wire through. My Dad and I spent some time mapping out where wire needed to go, and I went marking roughly where they needed to go, then measured to find the middle of the board and got a little more exact of where to put the hole. Some considerations were moving a little more this or that way to avoid air vents and existing plumbing.
I’m hoping to turn this slump around next month. I didn’t try very hard this month since I was also attempting NaNoWriMo, with everything else. I did get some reading done though, but it was here and there, and not all from the same book so no books were finished. I don’t think I’m going to be able to complete all the books I wanted to for this year, so I’m giving careful consideration to the books I wanted to read and trying to pick ones I absolutely want to read this year and what I may actually be able to read in one month.
