I’ve been catching previews for the movie inspired by the book A Dog’s Way Home. The movie looked interesting, but we all know the book is almost always better than the movie. So I thought I would pick up the audiobook of A Dog’s Way Home by W. Bruce Cameron.

The book follows the life of a dog, who will eventually get the name Bella. And it follows from her as a puppy, and meeting her human, Lucas. Lucas loves animals and gets into it with a developer who was trying to demolish old homes to turn them into something else, but one of the homes has cats living under it. Lucas does what he can to save the cats, but this puts him on the wrong side of the developer who then tries to hit Lucas where it hurts. He gets Lucas in trouble with the apartment complex where he lives, because they don’t allow dogs. Basically one thing leads to another and before you know it you are following Bella on a crazy trek through mountains, and dealing with other humans, trying to make her way back to Lucas.

This story pulls out all your emotions. I was happy, I was worried, sad, laughed, angry, scared, all of it. I am not kidding. Talk about an emotional roller coaster. But I couldn’t stop the book. I mean, I had to because I was listening at work, and people would stop by to ask questions, but I didn’t want to hit the pause button. I finished the audiobook in less than a day. I usually don’t like dramas, or contemporary books. This one though, gets 5 stars from me. Any animal lover will enjoy this book and will be wondering what their pets are thinking about.
