Mercy Thompson #1
Penguin Audio
Narrated by Lorelei King

I didn’t realize he was a werewolf at first. My nose isn’t at its best when surrounded by axle grease and burnt oil . . .’Mercedes Thompson runs a garage in the Tri-Cities. She’s a mechanic, and a damn good one, who spends her spare time karate training and tinkering with a VW bus that happens to belong to a vampire. Her next-door neighbour is an alpha werewolf – literally, the leader of the pack. And Mercy herself is a shapeshifter, sister to coyotes. As such, she’s tolerated by the ‘wolves but definitely down the pecking order. As long as she keeps her eyes down and remembers her place, the pack will leave her in peace.

I love the way Lorelei changes her voice so well. I believe she is Mercy. Mercy comes alive like she is someone I can get in my car and drive to. (It would be a bit of a drive for me since I’m in Michigan, and I believe she is in California. I don’t remember exactly, I do remember it would be a drive through several states.) Not only does she nail Mercy, in my opinion, but she gets the other characters too.

Mercy is a shapeshifter who is not really used to hard problems. Now she is put right in the middle of one. All she wanted to do was help a teenage boy, who turns out to be a werewolf. He was not born a werewolf, in fact he is new to the life of a werewolf. He was created in a lab, and is part of a larger plot no one saw coming.

I definitely enjoyed listening to the audiobook on my trips to and from work, and at the grocery store. I have found yet another series I want to continue reading. I will have to pick up Blood Bound, book 2 in the series, soon.
