Summary:

When professional house-sitter Lila Emerson witnesses a murder/suicide from her current apartment-sitting job, life as she knows it takes a dramatic turn. Suddenly, the woman with no permanent ties finds herself almost wishing for one…

Artist Ashton Archer knows his brother isn’t capable of violence – against himself or others. He recruits Lila, the only eyewitness, to help him uncover what happened. Chalking up their intense attraction to the heat of the moment, Lila agrees to help Ash try to find out who murdered his brother and why. From the penthouses of Manhattan to grand Italian villas, their investigation draws them into a rarefied circle where priceless antiques are bought, sold, gambled away and stolen; where what you possess is who you are; and where what you desire becomes a deadly obsession…

My Thoughts:

Oh my gosh, what a ride. First everything is going smooth, Lila is getting settled in to the house she is house sitting, and then she witnesses a woman thrown from a window to her death. Turns out, it was the wrong murder to witness…not that there is a right murder to witness, but if you have to witness a murder, this is not the murder you want to be drawn into.

The best thing that comes out of the murder is Lila meets up with the brother of the guy originally suspected of throwing the girl out the window before killing himself, and they fall in love. They also investigate the murder of his brother which is not the smartest move. Probably should have left things to the police.

Instead they go after an internationally wanted hit woman, and try to see who she is working for. They want her boss, knowing that it was the boss that had her go after his brother.

Things get complicated as they try to figure out their feelings for each other, and try to keep each other alive. Not to mention their closest friends get drawn into the fray.

I love Nora’s writing and how she tells stories. She gets you hooked in the very beginning, and you just can’t stop reading. You want to see the two main characters get together and get justice for the dead, while wondering who is going to be next?
