Dewey’s Readathon – Fall 2019

Well, here we go again. Usually there is an hour 0 check in kind of deal where everyone answers the same questions like, how many times you’ve participated in Dewey’s readathon. I’ve lost count. I’m just going to talk about why I love Dewey’s readathon.

It’s fun to have everyone start at the same time and cheer each other on. I feel like there is more interaction between readers in this readathon than others I have participated in.

Everyone reads for the same 24 hours. This makes it easy to cheer each other on, and could be why it feels like there is more interaction. The book talk isn’t ofset by people starting and ending at different times.

Now, on to the readathon! I’ll be updating here throughout the day, and on twitter. Have fun everyone!

Hour 4

Well, I didn’t expect it to be so long before I would be able to update you all, but here we are.

The day did not start as intended. My intention was to get up early, do a short workout (it’s been a while), and then go to the grocery store and be back before the readathon started. Instead I enjoyed the warmth of the bed this morning, and stayed a little too long. So, I didn’t end up heading off to the grocery until the readathon was only minutes away from starting.

After returning from the store, groceries put away, I watched Little Book Owl’s YouTube video with the challenges for the Tome Topple readathon coming next month. Now I need to consider what tomes to best fit in with also trying to write 50,000 words for NaNoWriMo.

Shortly after my husband left for work, and then I played outside with our puppy, Dante, for a bit until I became tired from chasing him around the yard and cold. Dishes left for a few days left undone, have now been washed and set to dry. (We do not have a dishwasher. I know, shock right?) Now I sit here enjoying some mac & cheese for lunch.

Other than when I watched Little Book Owl’s new video, I’ve been listening to Lirael by Garth Nix. Things are starting to happen and I’m excited to continue listening. However, I must also make use of having the house just to me and Dante, and work more on the outline for the story I intend to attempt next month. To do this I will be switching to Save the Cat! Writes a Novel.

Hour 7

Just got back from a walk with the puppy. While walking I listened to The Gunslinger by Stephen King. Can’t say much about The Gunslinger other than it’s quite interesting.

I didn’t get far in Save the Cat! earlier. Turns out I only had about 30 minutes of listening time left in Lirael so I ended up finishing it before picking up Save the Cat! Then of course I was updating and fixing and adding to my outline. So, I think I’m only a few pages further.

Now I think I need to make myself comfy, settle in and read Save the Cat! and work on my outline.

Hour 11

I was thrown off when a friend of mine and my husband asked to join us for dinner at one of our favorite diners. Well, no reading is getting done for this hour plus some.

Hour 15

I’ve been back from dinner at the diner for a few hours now. I’ve been working on Save the Cat! Writes a Novel and my outline. I’m feeling a little better with my outline, but at the same time feel like I have a large hole. Things happen a little too fast, lessons are learned in the equivalent of seconds rather than hours or days. So I have something to walk away thinking about.

Alas, I am becoming a bit tired. My husband is being nice for the most part and has been leaving me alone playing a video game. Although every now and then he is asking me questions, or asking me to look at a costume in the game. A bit annoying when I’m trying to read. The dog is passed out sleeping next to me. Like I am limited in the number of positions I can change to without disturbing him, or trying to escape to another place to park my butt and read.

With how late it is, considering I’m probably going to lose the battle with sleep soon, and the readathon will only have a few hours after I wake up again, I’m going to risk disturbing the dog to grab my graphic novel, Witch Buster Volume 5-6. Yes, I think I’m going to risk disturbing the dog to grab the book…he’ll fall right back asleep anyway without getting too annoyed at me. This way I should be able to finish a second book during the readathon, and limit the number of books I’m carrying over from my TBR into November.

Hour 23

Only one more hour left in the readathon. I got up when the dog called and I finished Witch Buster Vol. 5-6. So, I read one book start to finish now during this readathon, and finished reading another. I made progress on my outline and Save the Cat! Writes a Novel, and started The Gunslinger by Stephen King.

Now, I think I’m going back to bed, or at least lying down. I’m still tired, and there is no way I’m going to finish another book during the readathon. I’ll probably get up later and work on my outline some more with Save the Cat!, but other than that, I don’t know that much more reading will happen this weekend. Okay. Good night, good morning, good afternoon wherever you are. Hope you had fun this round of Dewey’s readathon, and I look forward to seeing you in the spring for the next one!
