Sunday Post #44: Habitica-Gameify Your Life

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly over on the Caffeinated Reviewer.

Today, I’m doing something different. I’m reviewing an app I tried to manage my task list called Habitica.

Habitica is an app on your phone meant to make your to do list fun. It worked for about 2 or 3 weeks before I got annoyed with it. It works best if you have no recurring monthly tasks. The best you can do for repeating tasks is if they repeat on specific days each week, such as each Monday, Thursday, and Saturday, or just every Monday. If you have a recurring monthly task, like a repeating bill, you will need to enter the task each, time, you need to complete the task.

I didn’t partake in any of the questing, but there are quests you can complete with a group of 3 other friends. I don’t know if the group can be larger than 4 in total, but you will have 1 person from each class. Which was another annoying part. Everyone is a warrior until you reach level 10. Sounds easy enough. Except after 3 weeks I still wasn’t close.

Sorting tasks is near impossible. You can have tags, but unless you want to have a tag for every project you are working on, there is no easy way to see where a project is.

While this was fun to use, and did make completing tasks fun. There is even a habit tracker, and seeing the experience and gold you get when you mark something complete is quite rewarding. You can also get eggs and potions to hatch them and make the animals different colors. So you can have a purple pig, or a blue dragon, but you have to have the blue hatching potion to get the blue dragon.

Overall this app is meh. I would have liked it better if I could easily see where my various projects are, or find specific tasks more easily.

I’m still on the hunt for a task manager tool. If you have suggestions, or apps you use and love, let me know in the comments so I can try it out.
